December 9, 2025

Dear Beacon Families, Staff, and Community,

As we prepare for the transition of the Beacon Innovation Management Organization to the Middle School Network at the end of the school year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to every one of you. Leading Grant Beacon Middle School and Kepner Beacon Middle School has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I am deeply proud of what we have built together.

When I first walked into Grant and Kepner, it was clear that our students deserved more—more vision, more direction, more opportunity. What was once were schools without a clear pathway quickly became something powerful because you helped shape it. Families, staff, students, and community members came together with passion and purpose, and together we created what we now proudly call the Beacon model.

I will always cherish the uniqueness of our schools. We built a model centered on personalized learning, strong character development, and rich enrichment opportunities that opened doors for students and allowed them to discover who they are and who they can become. These were not just programs. We created experiences that transformed students’ confidence, curiosity, and future opportunities.

More than anything, I am grateful for the memories we made along the way. Students found confidence in themselves through character development, families felt welcomed and valued like our Beacon Ambassadors and to our staff that pour their hearts into making sure every child is seen, celebrated, and challenged. The true success of Beacon has always been about enriching the lives of our students.

Although the organizational structure is changing, the programming will continue. I want to reassure you that I will carry this work through the remainder of the school year to ensure the transition is smooth, stable, and centered on students. The values, innovation, and spirit of Beacon will continue because the foundation is strong, built by all of us and rooted in a deep belief in what our students deserve

Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for believing in our vision. And thank you for being part of a community that truly puts kids first. I will carry these memories, and the impact of this work, with me always.

With gratitude,

Alex Magaña

Executive Principal, Beacon Network Schools
